With restaurants opening up all over the state indoors and outdoors, it’s time to start scoping out the best outdoor locations to sit and spend time eating good food and enjoying good company. The Western suburbs of Chicago offer various and diverse restaurants all over the area and no matter what your mood is there is certain to be a restaurant that will hit the spot.

Fat Rosie’s

With locations all over the Western Suburbs, Fat Rosie’s is a can’t miss restaurant with outdoor seating that offers trendy tacos and fresh margaritas with a hip environment to pair. If you’re looking for classic tacos, Fat Rosie’s keeps all the best flavors while adding a modern twist that makes it worth the usual wait.

Some of the most loved menu items include fried fish tacos, berry margaritas, and their famous straight out of the frier and to your plate tortilla chips and salsa. Located in Naperville, Schaumburg, Lincolnshire, and Frankfort IL, this suburb favorite is open Mon -Thurs 11:30 am – 9 pm, Fri-Sat 11:30 am – 10 pm, Sunday 10:30 am – 9 pm, and for Sunday Brunch 10:30 am-2:30 pm.

Empire Burgers & Brews

One of the best places to get a burger in Illinois (and people say that all the time but here it’s actually true), Empire in Naperville, provides one of the best outdoor seating areas. Their website provides updated information about dining in the COVID era, saying “ Our Rooftop Deck & Riverside Patio are now open for first come, first serve seating as well as a new Cafe Space out front of the restaurant.  We have implemented a number of guidelines to ensure the health & safety of our staff”.

Open Mon-Thurs 11 am-1 am, Fri-Sat 11 am-2 am and Sunday 11 am-2 pm with mostly all outdoor seating (weather permitting),  it’s a safe and fun dining environment with a full bar and specialty cocktails, this Downtown Naperville spot is a 10/10.

Antico Posto

If Italian food is what you’re craving, Antico Posto is the most talked about and enjoyed restaurants in the suburbs. With a reputation of being authentic and delicious, they serve all the classics, elevated for your dining pleasure. With a different special each day, you might have to go there a few times, just to try everything.  P.S- the peach bellini is the BEST guilty pleasure to indulge in.

Antico Posto is located in the Oakbrook Terrace and is open Mon-Thurs 11:30 am-8:00 pm, Fri-Sat 11:30 am-8:30 pm, and Sunday 12 pm-7:30 pm.

Francesca’s by the River

Another Italian favorite, Francesca’s by the River, stands out among the crowd because of the gorgeous view it provides of the Fox River and Downtown St. Charles. Francesca is also known for its long and diverse wine list and friendly staff. If you’re looking for an authentic, old school, family-style dining experience, this is somewhere you will love.

With all the classic dishes exactly how you know and love them, their entire menu is a hit. Their website announced they were once again open and that they are “committed to providing you with the outstanding food, beverage, and service experience that you’ve come to know from us over the years.” Francesca’s by the River is open Mon-Thurs 3 pm – 9 pm, and Fri – Sun 11:30 am-9 pm.

Bally Doyle

Skipping across Europe to another food hot spot, Bally Doyle is a classic Irish Pub style dining with a sophisticated twist. Know for being one of the most fun restaurants in Aurora and Downers Grove, Bally Doyle frequently plays live music and creates a fun atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Their website describes the places as embodying “the energy of a music venue with the laid back atmosphere & cozy interior of our favorite pubs from the Motherland. Both a destination & neighborhood favorite, Ballydoyle Irish Pub offers something for everyone”. Enough said. Bally Doyle is open Mon-Thurs 4 pm-10 pm, Fri-Sat 12 pm-12 am, and Sunday 12 pm-10 pm.

Lucky Monk

If you’re a beer person, Lucky Monk is for you. “When you name your restaurant after Trappist monks who’ve spent centuries perfecting their craft, you’re serious about your beer. Open 11 am- 11 pm daily, you basically cannot go wrong with the Lucky Monk, and including a decked-out patio, it is an ideal spot to spend a Saturday night.

Woodgrain Pizzaria

When you’re in the mood for pizza, but also an awesome dining experience, Woodgrain is your perfect choice. Located in Bolingbrook and Glen Ellyn, this pizza place is known for its create your own pizzas, cooked in a wood fire oven. The crusts somehow come out soft yet crunchy, and everyone loves the taste the wood oven brings.

Even if go with the plain cheese pizza, you are bound to be impressed by Woodgrain. They are open in Bolingbrook Sun-Thurs 11 am – 9 pm and Fri – Sat 11 am – 10 pm.
